“What’s
ASCD?”
Some
recently asked, “What’s ASCD?” The Association For Supervision and
Curriculum Development is an educational organization very much involved with
supporting the advantages of newer and data driven educational instructional
practices and methods. They are active in sharing research and current
best practices. They publish a daily email “SmartBrief”
which contains summaries of educational issues. Under ASCD’s comprehensive
membership they include once or every other month one of the latest educational
books from educational leaders. The monthly (September through May)
“Educational Leadership” magazine always contains a wealth of information
that can be helpful to those who instruct.

A
recent national survey shows that although 59% of teens wear seat belts while
driving, only 42% buckle up as passengers. Black passengers and male passengers
were the least likely to wear seat belts, at 37% and 38%. The

Trainer
of Trainers
Driver
educators who believe what they do is important need the best tools and support
they can get. The concept of training a few instructors to train others is
not a new concept but it is vital in our situation. Enabling driver
educators to improve instruction and its delivery is central to both change and
longevity. It is vital that we provide opportunities to driver educators
to have a hands-on, help you through the process opportunities. On November
16 and 17, Sunday, Monday, we will be conducting the Curriculum/Trainer
of Trainers workshop for 10-12 driver educators and Bob and Gary from Keene
State. John Harvey, Liz Taylor, and Rich Hanson who have conducted efforts
in several states around the country will be facilitating the program.
