How do I get DPI Licensure?

        You need a teaching license in North Carolina and four 3-semester hour credit classes from East Carolina University.

Excerpt from ECU's website:...
"An add-on license to a current teaching license in the state of North Carolina (12 semester hours). Courses for licensure as a driver education teacher in the public school system are available on campus or via the East Carolina University distance education program."

List of Courses:
DRED 2000: Introduction to Driver and Traffic Safety* - 3 semester hours; offered in fall, spring, & summer semesters; textbook and valid driver's license required.

DRED 2330: K-12 Safety Education* - 3 semester hours; offered in fall, spring, and summer semesters

DRED 3309: Advanced Driver and Traffic Safety Education* - 3 semester hours; offered in fall and summers semesters; textbook required

DRED 3320/3321: Laboratory programs in Driver and Traffic Safety Education* - 3 semester hours; offered ONLY in spring semester; course requires an on-campus weekend visit to East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina.
