Reduction of 1.1 Mil in DE Funds
Proposed By House

The House subcommittee on Transportation completed its budget recommendation and will present it to the House Full Appropriations Chair on Monday, June 8.  It includes a proposal to reduce funding for driver education by 1.1 million dollars.  It also changes our funding to non-recurring, which according to Gene, simply says that our funding in the future could come from the highway fund or it could come from the general fund. While we are not happy about being cut by 1.1 million, both Gene and I realize that the proposal could have been much worse.  Gene’s exact words were: “I don’t know of any other organization that came out this well”.  Of course this is just a proposal by the House and once the House passes it’s version of the budget a conference committee will be appointed to hammer out the differences in the three budgets.
