The 2009 American Driver and Traffic Safety Education’s (ADTSEA) Teachers Excellence Awards (TEA) sponsored by AAA, honors outstanding driver and traffic safety educators. Candidates are nominated by an ADTSEA state-affiliate or regional director for outstanding teaching and service to driver and traffic safety education. Nominees must have been ADTSEA members for at least three years including the current year. Each ADTSEA state-affiliate may nominate one person for the TEA. ADTSEA members, from states not affiliated with ADTSEA, can be nominated by the regional director from the members region. Each state can only have one nominee. States and regions may determine the criteria for their nominees. All nominees should be high quality teachers who deliver high quality driver education programs.

Recipients of the TEA will be recognized and honored at the second general session of the 2009 ADTSEA conference in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 27th. They will receive a complimentary conference registration and plaque from ADTSEA, a monetary award from AAA and identification to wear during the conference. Additional financial assistance should be provided by the state and/or region.

Each nominee must submit the completed Nomination Form. Nominations for Teachers Excellence Awards, to Lindsay Townsend by June 1, 2009. It must contain the required signatures. Lindsay will contact nominees soon after receiving the completed forms. Each nominee should plan on submitting a mini digital video film which shows them teaching part of a lesson in the classroom and vehicle. Fifteen minutes of film will be adequate. It will be edited to a few minutes using Mac i Movie and shown at the conference awards recognition session. Most schools have mini DV camcorders. They are simple to operate. Colleagues or students should be able to do the filming. Any students appearing in the film will need parent permission to be shown. A form will be provided.

This announcement is also being mailed to a number of selected individuals in an attempt to give broad coverage to ADTSEA’s TEA. We hope many people will promote the activity and help showcase great teachers. Please feel free to contact Lindsay Townsend for additional information.
